Freja 2007 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

This is an Oregon pinot noir that did not meet the bar; one that I would recommend avoiding.
The Freja 2007 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (13%) was a slightly cloudy, medium garnet in the glass, with fleeting hints of fruit overtaken by predominate notes of menthol, eucalyptus and talc. Sour, watered-down flavors became overwhelming tannic with a finish that tightened the throat.
We briefly paired this $18 wine with a dinner of grilled chicken thighs, fresh corn, and a rice pilaf. I even tried it again a night after we opened it to see if the Freja had settled down. Unfortunately, it had not improved being opened for 24 hours - down the drain this one went. This is an undrinkable wine.

So you got a corked bottle or something. Why not contact the winery for a good bottle instead of posting this negative blog.

Hi Willy,
I appreciate hearing directly from the winemaker on my experiences drinking the Freja pinot noir.
Please be assured that the bottle we opened was neither corked nor faulted in a manner that would merit a return. If it was, I wouldn't post about my experience drinking it.
Predominate notes of menthol and eucalyptus have occurred with other Oregon pinot noir wines (please see my tasting notes on other '07 wines). And strong tannins are usually a result of the winemaking process. As to the sourness, this can be attributed to too much acid.
My tastes, likes yours, are purely subjective. As such, I call it like it is according to my personal palate. Even still, if you'd like to send me another bottle to try, then please contact me via email.
Sincerely,
Thad
