Evesham Wood 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

The Evesham Wood 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (13%) is usually one of several early releases coming out of Oregon, with this bottle being my second taste of the '08 vintage.
In the glass, the Evesham Wood was a clear, garnet red with big cherry fruit on the nose followed by earth and spice. This Oregon pinot noir offered nice red berry fruit flavors (mostly cherry) and a very smooth texture. It was bit flat for lack of acidity. We paired this wine with homemade thin crust pizza and an arugula salad.
At $18, this is a very approachable and ready to drink Oregon pinot noir. I preferred the 2007 vintage from this producer, but would be willing to buy another bottle of this newly released wine.

Tasted this not long ago, and quickly bought a case--just in time. This is a very flavorful wine--running from red to medium dark fruits and earthier layers--but it is also restrained, not at all in your face or willing to give up its pleasures for nothing. I can't imagine the pizza match--how did that go? We paired it with salmon, and it went quite well, and quickly. I could easily drink these now, but I'm waiting until next spring before I open another. In my experience, these are ready to begin drinking the following spring after release, and are great in the 2-3 years after harvest period. This is also pure Oregon pinot, an almost completely different wine from the black cherry/alcohol California pinots, so you have to approach it differently. For me, it's the best value pinot I've found.
