Evening Land Celebration 2008 Gamay Noir Eola-Amity Hills

The more Oregon Gamay noir I experience, the bigger fan I become for this wonderful variety. The Evening Land Celebration 2008 Gamay Noir Eola-Amity Hills (13.2%) has raised my level of appreciation further.

In the glass, the Celebration '08 Gamay noir was a deep, purple and garnet color, offering nice floral notes of red fruit along with earth and spice, specifically hints of pepper and curry. This wine delivered terrific acidity, with a lot of tannins, which tended to dampen the fruit flavors a bit.

We paired this organic/biodynamic wine (uncertified) with an Italian lasagna-like dish. It was a recipe my wife used from one of her Italian cookbooks. Not only did the Celebration gamay pair well with this meal, but it evolved well over the next two nights. Again, a sign this wine may need more time.

At $22, I am going to buy several more bottles to put back and open over the next 18 to 24 months.

Comments

I want to try this '08 Gamay. The 2007 was excellent and made me rethink my feelings for this high profile project. They are making good wine, and I'm seeing their prices moderate with the market conditions.
